404 errors 1 Day, 15 Hours ago Karma: 0
Hello! I have never worked with an SEF program and am having some trouble. Installation went fine, and I seem to be getting SEF urls now once activating support for them with in my joomla configuration. However, I get a 404 error whenever I click on a link within my website. I've tried configuring a URL under the URL repository but it does not see to take effect and I still get the errors.

I'm stuck... can you help explain things a bit better for me. I've worked through the manual, but I don't completely understand that either...

Thank you.
Amanda

Hi, I don't know if I'm supposed to answer these or not and I could be wrong, but did you rename "htaccess.txt" in your root joomla installation folder to ".htaccess"?

Hi Justin,

Thank you for your help. I did verify that the file was properly named ".htaccess" and it was named named "htaccess". So I added the . and changed it to ".htaccess" and it still did not work. Any other ideas? Tips?

So I uninstalled a reinstalled everything and verified the settings again. This time it auto populated my SEF URLs which was empty the first time. BUT, it still doesn't work. When I click on a link it is still giving me a 404 error

Hi Amanda,

Do you use cache? If yes, have cleaned it?
Can you try a new/clean .htaccess file plz?

Best Regards

Hi Dennis,

I'm not using cache in my joomla configuration settings, it's turned to "off". Regarding a clean file, this may be a silly question, but where should I get a new one?
