Error stripping quotation marks?

To make AceSEF's URLs adopt the same format as URLs previously created by sh404SEF (to ensure consistency and make sure previous links work...), I do not want quotation marks to appear in my URLs even if they appear in the title of an article.

For example, for a page entitled - [brin david “startide-rising”], I do not want the quotation marks in the URL, as currently created by AceSEF - e.g.:
http://www.isaackoi.com/ufo-books/brin- … -rising”

I've tried looking in the configuration section of AceSEF and am probably missing something obvious, but when I try simply adding quotation marks ["] to the end of the line of "Strip characters" then the URLs that are made by AceSEF seem to strip out the quotation marks AND EVERYTHING BETWEEN THEM (e.g. the name of the book that appears within the quotation marks).

As I said, I am probably missing something obvious...

All the best,

Isaac

Re: Error stripping quotation marks?

You dont have to enter anything in "Strip characters" because AceSEF strips by default the quotation marks. Make sure you've AceSEf activated.

Re: Error stripping quotation marks?

Well, the System - AceSef plugin is showing as enabled in the Joomla backend, on the frontend each page has "SEO by AceSEF" at the bottom and the URLs change depending on whether or not the AceSEG plugin is enabled.

So, unless I'm missing something (which is a distinct possibility as I'm relatively new to Joomla...) it looks like AceSEF is enabled but the quotation marks are in the URLs genertated by AceSEF, e.g.:

http://www.isaackoi.com/ufo-books/achen … -aliens”

The only AceSEF plugin I've established is the Tags for Joomla extension.

All the best,

Isaac

Re: Error stripping quotation marks?

Can you:

OPEN:
administrator/component/com_acesef/classes/aceseftools.php

FIND
$replace = array("\"", "'", "`", "", "”", "¿");

Can you find such a line?

Re: Error stripping quotation marks?

Yes, I have found a similar line in that file:

$replace = array("\"", "'", "`", "", "?", "”");

Re: Error stripping quotation marks?

I replaced the line you mentioned in that file on my website by replacing it with the line cut and pasted from your post.

This resulted in the end quote marks being removed (”), but not the beginning quotation marks angled the other way (“).

So, I added a relevant expression to the array ("“").

It now works...

Thanks for your help.

This problem is now solved on my site - although query whether the array needs to be changed for other people's benefit.

All the best,

Isaac
