Loading home page changes language to default
Loading home page changes language to default
Goal:
Use the Joomfish component, Roknavmenu module and AceSEF component together with the ability to retain the language selected in the Joomfish module after leaving the home page and then returning to it by pressing Home in Roknavmenu.
Problems encountered:
- If AceSEF is enabled and the language is changed via the Joomfish module, the chosen language reverts back to the default language as set in Joomfish if "home" is chosen from Roknavmenu.
- Testing various combination's of settings in AceSEF or Joomfish to try and correct this problem has mixed results including only the content translating while the roknavmenu is still set as the previously chosen language and strange SEF home page urls.
Question:
These problems have been tested thoroughly and once AceSEF is eliminated as a variable the goal is achievable through the methods below. Now the question is how to use either of the methods below with AceSEF enabled without encountering the problems.
Method 1 works, using a Joomfish cookie, no AceSEF:
Enable AceSEF: No
Joomfish Jfrouter Parameters:
Enable Language determination: No
Language Selection for new visitors?: Site default language
Use 302 redirect: No
Save user language in cookie: Yes
Use SEF prefix or Subdomains?: SEF Prefix
SEF Prefix: All default prefix's
Method 2 works, edit Roknavmenu, No AceSEF, all options set to No in Jfrouter:
Edit the file modules/modroknavmenu/lib/RokNavMenuTree.php
Around line 331
Change:
Code:
if ($tmp->home == 1) { // Set Home Links to the Base
$tmp->url = JURI::base();
} To:
Code:
//if ($tmp->home == 1) { // Set Home Links to the Base
// $tmp->url = JURI::base();
//} Ace SEF Off
Joomfish Jfrouter Parameters:
Enable Language determination: No
Language Selection for new visitors?: Site default language
Use 302 redirect: No
Save user language in cookie: No
Use SEF prefix or Subdomains?: SEF Prefix
SEF Prefix: All default prefix's
Setup:
Joomla 1.5.17
Theme: Rockettheme Crystalline
Joomfish 2.0.4
AceSEF 1.3.5
RokNavMenu 1.11
Site is located at http://wattyweb.com/ but is in maintenance mode.
NOTE:
Searching various forums on Joomfish, AceSEF and Rockettheme I have come across suggestions, none of which worked so far. I had used a suggestion to edit helper.php in the modules/mod_mainmenu row 351 to replace
Code:
$tmp->url = JURI::base();
to
Code:
$tmp->url = str_replace(array($tmp->route.'/', $tmp->route), '', JRoute::_( $tmp->url ));
but this had no effect, probably because my template uses mod_roknavmenu instead of mod_mainmenu.

Re: Loading home page changes language to default
I decided to spend even more time on this issue to exhaust all possibilities and I actually found some new information. It is not an ideal solution but maybe Denis will know how I should proceed from here.
Hint: I read almost every forum post here regarding Joomfish and one of them mentioned the settings in the Joomfish JFrouter plugin and AceSEF needed to match.
Using that bit of information I decided to try and match them. Here are the settings (even though they are not ideal) that work.
AceSEF Joom!Fish Configuration:
Main language: None
Insert Language Code: Yes
Translate URL: Yes
Jfrouter Plugin:
Enable Language determination: No
Language Selection for new visitors?: Site default language
Use 302 redirect: No
Save user language in cookie: Yes
Use SEF prefix or Subdomains?: SEF Prefix
SEF Prefix: All default prefix's for any language you install
The most important setting that was causing the problems for me was in the AceSEF Joom!Fish Configuration, Insert Language Code. I had previously read on the AceSEF forums that the best setting for search engine friendly links was to remove the language code so I had set Insert Language Code to "No". Unfortunately this is what was creating all the problems. Once I changed this from "No" to "Yes" the menu's and translations are working.
The only problem/question I have now is, how do I remove the language code from the URL's and keep everything working?
I tried changing the AceSEF setting "Insert Language code" to "No" and then deleting the SEF Prefix values in the Jfrouter plugin but it didn't work.
Re: Loading home page changes language to default
Wow, what a detailed description of the issue
I'm really sorry about the wrong redirection I made in the toic you referred in your second message because the "Insert Language Code" should be "Yes" I mean this is why we set it to "Yes" in default configuration. Do you come across to any issue if you insert the language code?

Re: Loading home page changes language to default
If I use the settings mentioned in my previous post I can achieve my goal which was the ability to retain the language selected in the Joomfish module after leaving the home page and then returning to it by pressing Home in Roknavmenu.
I am curious why there is an option to choose "No" on the "insert language code" AceSEF configuration if it only causes problems? Is there a way to configure Joomfish and AceSEF that eliminates the language code and doesn't result in problems?
I have run into a few other problems with AceSEF and Joomfish but they are not related to this topic and I will post a new topic to discuss them. One is related to the meta title which is ignoring the setting "Include site name" which is set to "Yes after page title" but it is displaying as "Page Title - " instead of correctly displaying "Page Title - Site name". The other is related to a language code which is appended to one url. All my urls show as "http://wattyweb.com/en/articles/article-title" with the exception of one menu which is linked to a component named phpGEDview. That link displays as "http://wattyweb.com/en/genealogy/en". Notice the appended language code?
Thanks for the reply Denis. Have you thought about taking on a couple of support staff on your forums here? Developing products and providing the primary support seems like it would have you stretched pretty thin for time.
Re: Loading home page changes language to default
In fact, it should work even you set it to "No" but it seems there is a bug there. For now I've other tasks on my hands and I'll start the JoomFish task for AceSEF 1.5 where I'll do all tests. I would also appreciate your help while making those tests.
Yes, we're going to involve 2 guys via internet just for Support, would you be interested in?

Re: Loading home page changes language to default
I will be glad to help with any testing and to provide my detailed descriptions of problems and solutions when I can. Unfortunately I have a full time job that requires my attention for the majority of the day so I would not be able to take on an internet/forum support role. AceSEF was a blessing because I am a full time web admin and SEO/SEF is extremely important to me. I am currently testing it on my website and eventually going to implement it on the company website. It is important to me that AceSEF is successful. I am currently implementing sh404sef on the company site and AceSEF is far more user friendly with added features just as you advertise. Thanks for all the replies and let me know if you would like me to do any testing.
Re: Loading home page changes language to default
Hi Denis,
New AceSEF convert from sh404sef. I'm having a similar issue in that language codes not being added to urls, and in my case, some modules appear translated (Chinese) and others, including the main menu, appear in English. I've followed all the instructions Wyatt left here for jfrouter and have cleared the cache on server/browser. Of course I went through your docs and this forum to no avail. Any word on if this is a bug or am I'm missing something? If you have time, visit www.yootutor.com. Thanks and hope to hear from you soon about this.
Kevin
Edit: Changed the Joom!Fish Configuration --> Main language to none and this problem is solved, but I'd like to make Chinese Traditional my main language without having this issue. I'll play around more but would like to know if you've found an issue. Thanks!
Re: Loading home page changes language to default
The settings between JoomFish and AceSEF are very particular. One wrong setting and you may encounter the language problems you mentioned. Previously Denis said this was a bug, but since the last 2 or 3 AceSEF upgrades I haven't asked about it. Version 1.5 of AceSEF has been mentioned previously and seems to include a lot of changes. It may be possible that there will be more customization between JoomFish and AceSEF when it is released but I will leave that to Denis to confirm.
