But in this it is suggested to set the AceSEF AUP extension to diasble or AceSEF basic rewriting. I have not followed this advice and have it set to AceSEF Extension.

Because I am using TPLancers as well as AUP there is a problem with the referral link. TPLancers has its own registration pages - one for freelancers and one for buyers so it bypasses the Joomla registration page.

The Real URLs for the usual Joomla registration page are:

index.php?option=com_user&task=register
index.php?option=com_user&Itemid=185&view=register

The SEF URL is
/user/register

I have redirected the above real urls to

index.php?option=com_tplancers&Itemid=53

or SEF URL

/sign-up

which is the TPLancers sign up choice page (to choose between the freelancer or buyer registration). That all works ok.

The problem is in AlphaUserPoints where the "Invite a friend" always creates the referral link as

www.mydomain.com/user/register

which takes you to the Joomla registration page and not the TPLancers sign-up page.
How should this be configured to work properly?

Sorry Denis, I do not understand what you mean by 2. Set the desired user/register SEF URL as "Used".

I have set up the custom URLs I want to direct to SEF "sign-up" (there are 3 of them) and one of them is already set as "Used".

Is that what you are saying that I am supposed to do in No. 2 Set the desired user/register SEF URL (sign-up) as "Used"? Because it already was and doesn't work.

I have some SEF URLs "user/register" created which real URL is in the form
index.php?option=com_user&referrer=REFDR-USERNAME&task=register
from the attempted registrations, but they are directed to the Joomla registration which we do not want.

Add referrer word to AceSEF=>Extensions=>User=>non-SEF variables.
