Main menu and JoomFish problem 1 Year ago
|
|
|
since I got no answer for a few days, I'll try with opening a new thread for this issue:
I have persistant problems with mainmenu translation and pointing items when using ACESEF ... mainmenu keeps staying in default language and links are not working properly ... it happens on 3 different sites with 3 different templates and hosted on 2 different servers ...
I guess I tried everything:
* disabling JFrouter plugin
* checked var $live_site in configuration.php as suggested in AceSef documentation ... it was blank and after I added my live site url and purged SEF links, nothing changed: menu stays untranslated
* Redirect to www (AceSef config)
* Variating Base href value
* change displaying type of JFlanguage selector ...
* I tried to change the template, even renaming (thus disabling) folder mod_mainmenu in template html folder because i thought there might be some screws ... nevertheless nothing changed
* enable/disable Legacy plugin (well, just trying this and that arround)
* I even tried to change MySql driver from mysqli to mysql (as in original installation, which I primarly changed due to error reporting in user's menu) ... well that was a desperate try because I'm not sure if there's anything to do with .. just to illustrate that I'm out of ideas
as in some other bug reports, there's no langcode inserted in homepage url (using standard joomla frontpage), so i tried adding lang codes mannualy, after which i got them displayed of course, but mainmenu keep staying untranslated (in default language) and content and url are translated
of course, when I publish JFRouter, menu is translated, but not working as it has to
It's very strange behavior since with ACESEF disabled a Joomla core SEF seems to handle everything right
I use
J! 1.5.15
JFish V2.0.4 (Lightning)
AceSef 1.2.5 (free version)
I should mention that problem appeared with ACESEF versions 1.2.1, 1.2.2., 1.2.3., 1.2.4 and latest (at the moment) 1.2.5
Same as many others, I just love modular design and possibilities that AceSef seeems to provide, but so far I'm dissapointed and forced to disable it since it's not working properly on the basic level with out-of-the-box Joomla instalation (nevermind component specific extensions)
There must be something that makes that bug appear and I'm suggesting a search for solution, and additionaly, the simple FAQ answer to JFish compatibility (disable JFRouter) to be extended since it's not helping at all (well, in my case and few others as I seen on Forum) ... Of course, I tried to search the forum and FAQs but nothing I found helped me in solving this basic problem
I'll keep my eye on the Forum posts and hope for a solution to be find because I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem, and since I really appreciate an effort invested in developing this lovely extension, I would really like to be able to say that Ace Sef deserved a title of No.1 J! SEF extension
I know that Denis is occupied with developing, supporting and administering forum, and I guess there's no such a hurry for non-paying members, so please anyone else point me to the solution?
Thanx

hi "web jeb"!
you are not alone, i have the same problem. acesef works with joom!fish not correctly. from the beginning i tested each version of acesef but i think, denis need more time for a stable joomfish-version. since 1.2.4 i can't use it and i must disabled.
i am a paying customer and i hope joomfish is on the top of denis priority-list!

thanx for your post, it helps proving that I'm not alone with this problem ...
Should say that more I'm headbreaking with it, more I'm thinking it should be some misconfiguration problem because I don't believe Denis would release an extension and a new versions of it so rapidly without checking it on so basic level
Also, so many people using this extensions and asking extension specific support - which is no exception in any way comparing to other extensions ... as more complex the extension, more people would need a support, no matter if their problems are just beginners misconfiguration issues or a real bugs - and more complex the extension the more time it needs to be tested and to catch every possible bug because there are always variations in servers, versions, 3rd party components and configurations they use
So, to make it brief, a logical conclusion is that many of them are using it on multilingual sites with Joomfish and they are not reporting thus do not have such a problem, which leads me to the conclusion it must be something configurable
Anyway, it should help if some of them reply to this post willing to compare versions and configurations adjustments
Following that line of thinking, I'm playing with AceSef, Joomfish, and Joomla core configurations, trying to catch a possible cause, but no luck so far ...
Since the 2 of the 3 sites I mentioned to have same problem, (and only ones that i tried to use AceSef with), are to be finished very soon and opened for public (third one already is, using Joomla core SEF) I should give up soon and stick to the Joomla core SEF or I should try Artio Joomsef, because I just can't afford much more time to loose on this, as I said basic issue

don't forget, joomsef is a young extention and now is christmastime
perhaps denis has more time after the holidays. i hope you can wait. in the meantime i use the joomla core sef. is not so good but what should we do?
@ denis: i use currently the newest versions of AlphaRegistration, ccNewsletter, eXtplorer, EZ Realty, Joom!Fish, JoomlaPack, RealtyMap, Xmap and the Rockettheme Mixxmag. if you need, i make you a compilation of all the errors and a sandbox of my system for extended testings.
merry christmas

yes, thank you for advice ... anyway, I'm not sure i can wait for a more than several days, because i dont want to have pages indexed with core sef links and after changing them ... that might spoil all SEO efforts, at least in a starting period, wouldn't it?
in meantime i downloaded and installed 2 plugins which help me to improve core sef regarding pagetitles, and that improves core sef possibilities, only it takes a bit more time comparing to modular META management implemented in AceSef, but it is worth considering the time I spent trying to solve Ace/Fish issue ...
Anyway, thank you again and wish you and all the rest AceSefers and Joomsters a Merry Xmass and happy NY
